2023 - Week 8

Writer: Eric SaylorEric Saylor

Scott has A New Hope whipped into shape, and on a three game roll. He easily handles The Urge to Purge 145-62, which was our largest blowout of the week and still somehow the highest scoring bout. Hurts/Brown is quickly becoming the most frightening stack in fantasy, and Etienne has had a helluva four game run. No tight end, no problems for the highest scoring team in the Bro Montana Bowl. Scotty is averaging a cool 127 points per week over the last three games, with his TE position scoring a grand total of 8 points over the same stretch. On the other side of this matchup, Tank has shown some nice scoring over the course of the season as we hit the midway point, but he’s struggled over the last three games. Averaging an abysmal 69.33 points, he found a win in there but he’s gonna need to get some scoring back or he may continue his slide to accompany Nick and his lover, Bradley, at the bottom of the standings. Tank moves on to right the ship against Mason and Unloved Puppies.

There were two 2-6 teams coming into Week 8, both desperately needed wins, both went ahead and scored 111 points. Spencer and I got the job done this week, and I can’t express how heartbreaking and ironical this would have been if we had played each other. Spencer takes down Dallas with the first real performance from Waddle the entire season, the first solid game from Devonta Smith in a long time, and a monster Josh Allen game. Dallas was let down across the board except for his beloved Bengal players, Chase and Mixon. I’ve never even imagined the Mahomes/Kelce stack could be so lifeless, and I still can’t believe it was against the Broncos of all teams. Dallas moves on to battle with the #1 seed, Rim Riders, but the 49ers are on a bye so it’s more like Outer Rim Riders.

Stunning & Brave was, in fact, very stunning and fairly brave this week. CeeDee Lamb looked like an elite receiver again, sprinkle in a little Breece Hall, Swift, and my boy TJ Hockenson, and out comes a mini spanking for OTT IS HIM. Jahmyr Gibbs made the entire matchup look much more respectable, really too bad he’ll be back on the bench once Montgomery returns post bye week! After a 4-1 start, OTT IS HIM is in the midst of a three game skid, sitting at 4-4 and 4th place, he’ll look to make things right against the 10 seed No Safe Words. Early projections have Spencer almost an 80% favorite to win… good thing for AO projections don’t matter! I couldn’t be happier getting a win and getting to head into my bye week. I’m considering a Mai Tai on a beach somewhere, anyone have good ideas?

What an exciting and close game between Mason and Eric. Dak did everything he could to will Mason’s team to victory, and the Lions defense, as well as the Vegas offense did almost everything they could do to get Mason the win on Monday Night. Jacobs found the endzone and secured the win for Eric and the Rim Riders. McCaffery and Kittle lead the way, and Eric continues his round robin QB starting strategy with Lawrence at the helm, once again not producing points. You guys want to hear something nutty? The last time Eric played a QB that scored more than 14 points was Week 3, and he’s started four different QBs this year, Will Levis will be his fifth... he’s 7-1 and in first place. Wild.

Nick benches the Sun God due to a late in the week Questionable ‘Illness’ tag, presumably over Courtland Sutton, and loses because of it. Ragen gets the MUCH needed win, and remains undefeated while being in the state of Oregon on Sundays. Tua, Ekeler, and Godwin lead the way. Nick gets to witness Bijan’s first NFL rushing TD… in Week 8… not exactly what he was expecting but here we are. We get to see the Old Man Bowl in Week 8, Nick vs Scott, and for the first time in a long time, Scotty is the odds on favorite!

The Cocaine Bears get through their bye week unscathed, Lamar Jackson comes back to earth, but a vintage Alvin Kamara showing helps propel Jake to a 87-58 victory over Bradley and the very much Uncomfortable squad he’s fielding. Five players in the single digits for B-Rad, with one of them going -1. Younghoe Koo was his leading scorer, and marks the second time on the season that Bradley’s kicker lead the way for him in scoring. Jake moves on to square off with one of his favorite beer pong partners, Ragen, looking for his third win in a row!

Happy hump day, and happy Week 9 fellas! Commish Out.
